Dialogues about the practice of science

Abstract

In this Special Feature, we explore the methods scientists use to carry out research, ways that reform might be merited, and how technological and cultural revolutions will or should impact scientific practices. The perspectives are authored by scientists across diverse fields, addressing questions about scientific gatekeeping, reproducibility, and the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence into research. The goal is not to establish a consensus but to provide a platform for discussing the merits of different scientific practices and methodologies.
